Eastern Pacific Oceanic Council (EPOC) was founded in November 1954 to further oceanographic and biological investigations in the Eastern Pacific for the benefit of fisheries. It assisted in the coordinated planning and execution of work at sea and exchanged research program results. EPOC was modeled on ICES, but it was a private rather than governmental organization.
